Energy Action Coalition
The Power Vote campaign is spearheaded by the Energy Action Coalition.
The 46 environmental and social justice organizations, 700+ local groups, and tens of thousands of young people that make up the Energy Action Coalition have united to create a powerful network and leverage their collective resources to enact change for a clean, efficient, just, and renewable energy future.
This exceptionally diverse group of organizations is leading the way in addressing climate change by winning clean energy victories at the local, state, national, and international level - all while supporting and strengthening the clean energy movement among young people in the United States and Canada.
History
The Energy Action Coalition was founded in 2004 when young leaders across the country concluded that if we all work together, all of our work will be stronger. Energy Action's flagship campaign, the Campus Climate Challenge, was launched in 2006 to spur a new wave of investment in renewable energy on campuses and encourage campuses to become models of sustainability. The Challenge is now being run on over 700 colleges and universities across the country and since its launch, over 550 campuses have made institutional commitments to become carbon neutral!
In November of 2007, Energy Action helped put a face to the youth climate movement by bringing thousands of leaders together for Power Shift 2007. Over 6,000 young people converged at the University of Maryland, College Park for a weekend packed with presentations, trainings, and action, and we are doing it again with Power Shift 2009!
